Seventeen years ago, Bill Gates began his second full-time career—not as a tech titan, but as a humanitarian—becoming part of a growing trend: the “encore career,” a purposeful alternative to traditional retirement.

Today, in Canada alone, an estimated 5,000 baby boomers reach retirement age every week. Nearly half are interested in launching new careers with potential for positive social impact.

 

Many still have 10 to 20 years of wisdom, creativity, and skill to contribute—just not in the high-burnout roles of their youth.
